Sarnia Jr. Sting
Novice MD Tier 2 drop a pair of games on the
weekend
Sunday, February 17 The first match up was Sunday afternoon at Germain Arena. Jakob Knowles was between the pipes and played well for his team turning aside 22 shots. Carson Payne was able to get the Sting on the board first with an unassisted effort halfway through the first period. Matt Hunt put the Sting up 2-0 at 2:28 of the period. Assisting on the play was Carson Payne and Lucas Knowles. SSE Wild would come back with one of their own just 13 seconds later to make it a 2-1 game.
Carson Payne would collect his second goal of the game early in the 2nd period. Collecting assists were Justin Houle; Joel Pavey and Burke Roszell. Late in the same period, SSE was able to put one past Knowles to pull within one for a 3-2 score.
The Wild would tie the game at 7:23 of the third, but Sarnia would answer back just over a minute later with a goal off the stick of Matt Hunt. Assist credited to Lucas Knowles. The Sting would get their 5th goal of the game from a scramble in front of the Wild net. Dawson Young was credited with the goal with assists to Brett Brydges and Ryan Gould. Down by 2 goals with less than 1:30 left in the game, the Wild would make it 5-4. With determination the Wild would continue to storm the Sting net and tie the game at 5 with 42.1 seconds left in the game. With the game clock winding down and a play in front of Knowles, the Sting were unable to clear the puck and the Wild scored with 0.03 seconds remaining to win the game 6-5.
A tough loss, but the boys would need to regroup and be ready to play the Wild again Monday night.
Monday, February 18
The venue for this game was Sarnia Arena and the hope was that the boys would overcome yesterday's heartfelt loss and come out flying. The Wild were able to get on the board 8:45 in the first to take the 1-0 lead. Although the Sting did outshoot their opponent with shots on net in the first, they were unable to beat the Wild goaltender. The Wild would score again late in the first for the 2-0 lead. The Wild would extend their lead to 3-0 with a single marker in the 2nd period. Good effort!! Final score 4-0 SSE Wild.
Next action for the team is Sunday, February 24th when the Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets come to town. Game time is 4:00 pm at Germain Arena. Let's work hard at practice this week boys and be prepared to take on the Vets! highlights brought to you by: |
