The Sarnia Jr.
Sting finished out their regular season play
with two losses and a tie.
March 2,
2008
The opponent for
this game was West London Hawks. The Hawks got on the board first
with a goal in the first period. The Sting
would reply with one of their own on the
powerplay in the second period. Tying the
game was Brett Brydges assisted by Ben
Rutledge and Dawson Young. West London
would beat Iacobelli to go ahead 2-1 at 4:06
of the third. With time winding down in the
game, Lucas Knowles would get the equalizer
at 13:20 to tie the game at 2. Collecting
the assist was Matt Hunt. Hoping for the
tie and with only 4 seconds remaining in the
game, West London would score to win the
game 3-2.
March 4,
2008
After having to
regroup from their last game, the Sting were
on the road to play the North London
Nationals. This game was sure to be
exciting as most games played between these
two teams are very close. Jakob Knowles was
between the pipes. The first period
remained scoreless. Dawson Young put his
team on the board first with a goal at 1:44
into the second period. Assisting on the
play was Nolan DeGurse. North London would
tie the game on the powerplay just 50
seconds later. Brett Brydges would put the
Sting ahead 2-1 at 9:28. Assisted by Dawson
Young. The Nationals would continue to
pressure the Sting and would tie the
game 2-2 at 12:10. Although the boys did
play well they would have to settle for the
2-2 tie.
March 6,
2008
On the road
again, this game saw the boys take on the
London Devilettes for their final regular
season game. London took a 2-0 lead in the
first period. They increased their lead to
3 with a goal in the second. The Sting
seemed to come alive in the third and was
able to beat the Devilettes goalie. Scoring
the first goal was Dawson Young assisted by
Matt Hunt at 5:02 of the period. London
would score to make it a 4-1 game. Matt
Hunt would score at 9:36 to pull the Sting
within 2. Assisting on the play was Lucas
Knowles and Carson Payne. Matt Hunt would
collect his second goal of the game at
11:57. Credited with the assist was Justin
Houle. Unfortunately London would find the
back of the net in the final minute of the
game to seal the 5-3 win.
With the regular
season complete, the boys can now focus on
the playoffs and need to work hard to have
a good first round.
Next action for
the team is Saturday, March 15th when they
travel to Blyth by chartered bus to play
their championship game against Mildmay that
has been rescheduled from February 10th due
to the weather. Good luck in the
championship game and bring home the GOLD.
