Sarnia
Jr. Sting Novice Tier 2 display whole team
effort
The Sarnia Jr.
Sting Novice Tier 2 team were busy this past
weekend with a road game Saturday afternoon
in London and a home game on Sunday. It had
been over 2 weeks since the boys last played
a league game, so it took a little to "shake
the cob webs."
Saturday
afternoon saw the Sting face off against SSE
Wild at Nichols Arena for a 2:15 puck drop.
Jakob Knowles had the start in net and lead
his team to a 1-0 advantage at the end of
the first period. Putting the Sting on the
board was Matt Hunt, assisted by Carson
Payne. End to end action kept it exciting
for the fans and the score at the end of the
second was 2-2. Scoring the team's second
goal was Nolan DeGurse assisted by Ben
Rutledge and Dawson Young. The Sting would
find themselves in some penalty trouble in
the third and the Wild were able to
capitalize on the man advantage twice.
Although the boys played hard in the third
they were unable to get back in the swing of
things. Sarnia's third goal come off the
stick of Curtis Marks, assisted by Burke
Roszell. Final score 7-3 for the Wild.
Just over 24
hours later, the Sting would regroup and
focus on the task at hand by hosting the
North London Nationals at Germain
Arena. The team took one of the chin
from the Nationals the last time they faced
off against each other and were hoping for a
better result. A WHOLE TEAM EFFORT was
evident and the boys played their best game
of the season. Score at the end of the 1st was
1-0 for London, scoring on the powerplay.
The line of Knowles; Payne and Hunt got
things going for the home team with a goal
off the stick of Knowles assisted by Hunt.
The game was tied at 1-1 heading into the
third. Once again the Sting would find
themselves in penalty trouble but would not
allow the Nationals a powerplay goal. The
goals would begin to come and it was Ryan
Gould who put the Sting up 2-1, assisted by
Dawson Young and Curtis Marks. The "mini
me" line of DeGurse, Brydges and Young would
go to work and put the Sting up by two.
DeGurse was credited with the goal, assisted
by Young and Brydges. The Sting would not
end there as Young would find the back of
the net with his first of the season,
assisted by Brydges and DeGurse. Great
effort was also displayed by the line of
Pavey; Marks and Houle with hard work in the
corners and scoring chances of their own.
The defensive core of Gould; Roszell;
Rutledge; Manery; Tunstill and Pomerleau
played very well and were able to clear
pucks in front for their goalies. Final score 4-1 for the Sting.
CONGRATULATIONS
on your victory boys and keep up the hard
work!!!!. Next action for the Sting is this
coming weekend when they have a "home and
home" exhibition tilt with the Petrolia
Novices. Game times are Fri. Nov. 23, 6:00
pm at Germain and Sat. Nov. 24 10:50 am in
Petrolia.
