Sarnia Jr. Sting
Novice MD Tier 2 suffer first loss of the
season
What's more
exciting for a bunch of young boys - their
home opener or their "first road trip?" The
Novice MD Tier 2 team had the opportunity to
travel to Oakridge Arena in London on
Thursday night for their first road trip of
the season to take on the Aeros.
The first period
was very exciting as the goalies at both
ends of the rink played outstanding.
After the first period the score was 2-2
tie. Putting the
Sting on the gamesheet was Matt Hunt,
assisted by Joel Pavey and Brett Brydges
assisted by Nolan DeGurse.
Things seemed to
turn on the Sting and by the end of the
second they found themselves down by a score
of 5-2. As in their previous game, they
were determined "not to give up" and
continued to work hard to pull the game
within reach. As the Aeros began to find
themselves in penalty trouble, the Sting
took advantage of the extra man and scored
two nice powerplay goals for a 6-4 score.
The goals were awarded to Carson Payne,
assisted by Joel Pavey and Matt Hunt and
Lucas Knowles assisted by Brett Brydges and
Nolan DeGurse. The Aeros were able to find
the back of the net before the final
buzzer for a the final score 7-4 in their
favour.
Although the
Sting did suffer their first loss,
they should be proud as their penalty kill
was superb, going 3 for 3 on the kill and
scoring 2 powerplay goals.
Next action for
the team is Sunday, October 21st, when they
host the SSE Wild, 4:00 pm at Germain.
