vs Cambridge Hawks
The Sarnia
Jr. Sting Major Peewee team headed to Cambridge for the Festival
of Friendship tournament. Game one was against the host
Cambridge Hawks. The Sting started the game with two players
out, serving suspensions, and another player out due to medical
reasons. AP player Austin Williams was on hand to help the team.
In the first period, Matt Hodgins and Brendan Hewton made nice
passing plays and came close to scoring. Chris Winch had the
start in net for the team. The Hawks started the scoring when
they made a nice pass from the corner to a lone forward in front
of the net. The Sting were had their backs against the wall with
2 men in the penalty box but the Hawks couldn't get the puck
past Winch. Chase Henne had a fantastic chance to score when he
was sent out alone on a breakaway but the Hawks goalie shut the
door. With a couple of minutes left in the period, the Sting had
more penalty trouble and lost another man for the next game.
The Sting
didn't give up in the second period but Cambridge managed a two
on one rush and scored the second goal of the game. Both teams
traded penalties but the Sarnia Peewee's were hurt the most when
Koen Gendron went down with a serious injury.
Matt Hodgins
fed a nice pass to Colin Lange but the puck was just out of
reach. The Sting just couldn't get a break. The final was 2-0
for the Hawks.
The team
plan on getting a good night's rest and will try again early
Saturday morning with a game against Kitchener Rangers Red.

vs Kitchener Rangers
The Sarnia
Jr. Sting Major Peewee team began the day with an early morning
contest against Kitchener Rangers Red. Greg Loucks started in
net for the Sting. The Rangers had two good chances within the
first 2 minutes of the game. Sarnia found themselves down a man
early and the Rangers scored on the powerplay. With 4 minutes
left in the period, the team lost another player for the game.
Kitchener scored on the power play and the score was 2-0. Things
didn't get any better for the Sting when a third goal was scored
by their own defense. On one of the rare power plays for the
Sting, Justin Lindsay had a nice rush and the team were able to
set up. Jack Paterson almost scored from the point and Justin
Lindsay almost put in the rebound. Before the period ended,
Kitchener scored one more power play goal to go ahead 4-0.
The second
period was a penalty filled event. The Rangers scored their 5th
goal on the powerplay. AP player, Austin Williams, had a great
scoring opportunity when he was sent alone down the ice but the
Ranger goalie made a great save. With 19 seconds left in the
period, the Rangers scored once more on the powerplay to take a
6-0 lead.
The third
period had a bright spot for the Sting when Tristan Reeb took
off with the puck and put the puck over the Rangers goalie's
shoulder. The rest of the period saw both teams in an aggravated
mood. The teams were both penalized on several occasions. The
Rangers scored an empty net goal to complete the scoring at 7-1.
The Sting hope to rebound against division rivals, Oakridge
Aeros, in their next game. The Sarnia Peewee's are hoping to get
better results when they play at 6:15 pm at the Duncan McIntosh
Arena.

vs Oakridge Aeros
The Sarnia
Jr. Sting Major Peewee team had the final game of the round
robin against London division rivals, the Oakridge Aeros. Not
surprisingly, the game began with penalties being assessed to
both teams. Chris Winch had the start in net. Oakridge opened
the scoring at the 8:38 mark of the period. Matt Hodgins made a
nice play and sent the pass to Chase Henne but the Oakridge
goaltender made the stop. Chris Winch made a spectacular leg
save and on the ensuing rush, Brendan Hewton had a good scoring
opportunity. Oakridge then sent a man on a breakaway and scored
the second goal of the game.
In the
second period the Sting kept pressing but the Aeros scored their
3rd goal of the game as a Sarnia powerplay ended. The team
didn’t give up and Jack Paterson received the puck from the
faceoff and passed it to Colin Lange who scored. On the next
shift, Justin Lindsay got a shot on net and Brendan Hewton
deflected it in to make the score 3-2. The Oakridge goalie then
gave up a juicy rebound and defenseman Michael Kerwin put it in
from the hash marks. Tied game.
In the third
period, Oakridge had a great opportunity to break the tie but
Chris Winch made a terrific save. Justin Lindsay and Brendan
Hewton continued with their great passing in the Oakridge end
and Chase Henne received the pass and scored. At the 7:10 mark
of the period, Oakridge take advantage of a rebound shot and tie
the game at 4. The team kept pressing and once again Justin
Lindsay scored. The Sting found themselves down a man but
Brendan Hewton worked hard and managed a wrap around short
handed goal for a Sting 6-4 lead. Moments later, Justin Lindsay
scored another short handed goal for the Sting to make the final
score 7-4.
