The Sarnia Peewee MD team played the Oakridge Aeros and were looking to take the two points to tie the Aeros on top of the league standings.
Chris Winch had the start in net as the Sting came out skating and applied pressure on the Aeros from the start of the game. At 7:11 of the first period, Justin Lindsay took a shot from the face off circle that found the back of the Oakridge net. The Sting kept applying the pressure and led 1-0 at the end of one.
In the second period, Winch was busier and handled all the shots he faced. The Aeros almost scored when a forward was left in front of the net but Winch made a point blank save. Both teams traded penalties but no one was able to score.
In the third period, Oakridge had a good 2 on 1 rush but they were unable to beat Winch. With 1:57 left in the game, the Sting were assessed a penalty and the Aeros pulled their goaltender for a 6 on 4 advantage. Justin Lindsay was able to steal the puck and put it into the empty net to make the score 2-0 Sting. Winch had to make more outstanding saves. The Sting were then given another penalty and Oakridge once again pulled their goaltender. With 30 seconds left in the game, the Aeros used the 6 on 3 advantage to break Winch’s shutout. The team were able to keep the first place Aeros from scoring again and won the game 2-1.
The Sarnia Peewee MD play their next game on Sunday, December 16th against the Woodstock Navy Vets at the Clearwater Arena at 12:00 pm. highlights brought to you by: |
