Sarnia Peewee MD
Vs.
Oakridge Aeros
Monday, February 11, 2008
Western Fair Ground Arena
The Sarnia Peewee MD team played
the Oakridge Aeros hoping for a win to move ahead of the
Aeros for first place in their Tier 2 division.
Chris Winch had the start in
net. Within the first 2 minutes of the opening period,
Oakridge took a 1-0 lead. At the 7:00 minute mark, the Sting
tied the score on a nice goal by Garrett Deley. The Oakridge
goalie came up with some big saves as the Sting outplayed
their rivals.
In the second period, good work
by Chase Henne allowed Brendan Hewton to pounce on a rebound
for a 2-1 Sting lead. Koen Gendron, Justin Lindsay and
Tristan Reeb all had opportunities to increase the lead but
the Oakridge goalie stopped everything that came his way.
With 47.3 seconds left in the period, Oakridge scored on a
breakaway.
In the third period, the Sting
were penalized at the 12:03 mark. Oakridge applied good
pressure but Winch was able to keep them off the score
board. Before the end of the penalty, Oakridge were assessed
a too many men on the ice penalty. The Sting had multiple
chances to score on the ensuing power play. When the teams
were at full strength, Matt Hodgins was able to dig the puck
out of the opposition's corner, come out to the front and
pocket the puck behind the goalie for a 3-2 lead. With less
than 30 seconds remaining, the Aeros pulled their goaltender
for an extra attacker. The Sting had ample opportunities to
clear the puck but a steal by the Aeros allowed them to tie
the game with 12.5 seconds remaining. The final score was
3-3.
The Sarnia Peewee MD play their
next games at the Chicago Cup President’s Day tournament
beginning on Saturday, February 16th. |
