Sarnia Peewee MD vs West London Hawks
Clearwater Arena
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Peewee MD
team and the West London Hawks met at the Clearwater Arena
tied for second in their Tier 2 division. The winner would
move alone into second place, one point behind the Oakridge
Aeros.
Greg Loucks started in net for
the Sting. Early in the first period, Justin Lindsay
zig-zagged his way around the defense and shot the puck off
the crossbar. The two teams traded penalties but the score
remained tied at zero to end the first.
In the second period, Colin
Lange had a great rush down the left wing. He rang the puck
off the post and it found it’s way behind the Hawks goalie
but the ref’s denied the Sting a goal. At the 8:25 mark,
West London were able to get a shot on net that was
deflected by the Sting into their own net. Garret Deley and
Brendan Hewton passed well to each other but again, they
just couldn’t get it over the goalie. The score was 1-0
Hawks at the end of the period.
In the third period, Greg Loucks
came up with multiple saves. West were then penalized and at
the 8:25 mark, C.J. Montanaro got a shot off from the point
to tie the game at ones. Both teams had more scoring
opportunities as the play went from end to end. With a
couple of minutes remaining in the game, Hewton, Lindsay and
Chase Henne worked some great tic-tac-toe passing and Hewton
shot a rebound into the Hawks net. The Hawks pulled their
goalie but big saves by Loucks resulted in a 2-1 win for the
Sting. The West London Hawks outshot the Sting 19-16.
The Sarnia Peewee’s next game is
against the first place Oakridge Aeros at the Western Fair
Arena on Monday, February 11th at 7:45 pm. |
