Sarnia Peewee MD Vs. Oakridge Aeros

The Sarnia Peewee MD team played
the Oakridge Aeros and both teams entered the game tied for
first in division play. The Sarnia team had 2 games in hand
and were looking to win their 3rd straight game.
Greg Loucks had the start in net
and AP player, Alex Daamen, joined the team for the game.
In the first period, the Sting
came out with some great hits and terrific fore-checking.
Tristan Reeb took a shot on the Oakridge net and Michael
Kerwin was able to deliver the Stings first goal. The Sting
outshot the Aeros 6-3 but were unable to add to their 1-0
lead.
In the second period, both the
Sting and the Aeros traded penalties. Loucks made a key
glove save to keep the Aeros off the scoreboard. Koen
Gendron rushed end to end but was unable to beat the goalie.
The third period started with 4
on 4 play. Both teams had good scoring opportunities. The
Sting thought they had taken a 2-0 lead on a seeing eye shot
by Brendan Hewton but a Sting penalty was called behind the
play, disallowing the goal. At the 6:21 mark of the period,
Oakridge won the draw in their own end and sent the left
winger on a breakaway and they scored to tie the game at
1-1. With 2:07 remaining in the game, the Sting were
assessed another penalty. The Aeros took advantage and
scored the game winner with 56.6 seconds remaining. Despite
outshooting the Aeros 23-16 the Sting were unable to tie the
game and took a 2-1 loss.
The Sarnia Peewee MD play their
next game on Wednesday, January 23rd in a make up game
against the LMHA Thunder at the Sarnia Arena at 7:00 pm. |
