Sarnia Jr. Sting Peewee MD vs.
West London Hawks
Nichols Arena
The Sarnia Major Peewee MD team
played the West London Hawks in the second game of their
best 2 out of 3 series. A win would force game three; a loss
would end the Sarnia Peewee MD’s season.
Chris Winch started in goal for
the Sting. The Sting began play aggressively and at 6:30 of
the first period, Koen Gendron took the puck behind the West
net and passed out front where Colin Lange was able to lift
the puck over the West goalie from his knees. The Hawks tied
the game two minutes later. At 3:12, the Hawks took a 2-1
lead when they were able to pass the puck to a waiting
forward in front of the net. The Sting tied the game on a
goal by Tristan Reeb with 1:35 left in the period.
In the second period, the two
teams played with intensity but most of the play was in the
neutral zone. Justin Lindsay made a nice pass to Brendan
Hewton who shot the puck in for a 3-2 Sting lead. West tied
the game once again on a fluky shot that beat Winch. Garrett
Deley rushed down the left wing and got the puck to Tristan
Reeb for his second goal of the game. West then tied the
game at four with 3:20 left in the second period on a
screened shot.
The Sting came out in the third
period and quickly got the go ahead goal. Reeb was able to
get the puck out from the corner and Garrett Deley scored.
Koen Gendron continued to work hard and with persistence,
lifted the puck over the West goalie’s shoulder for a 6-4
lead. The Hawks didn’t give up and on a shot from the
blueline they scored their fifth goal. Greg Loucks entered
the game in place of Winch. With 8:33 remaining in the
period, the Hawks were able to break past the defense and
they tied the game. Deley and Gendron had good opportunities
to break the tie and Loucks made a great save on a defensive
miscue but the score remained tied.
The first overtime period began
with 4 on 4 play. West were stopped on a nice poke check by
Reeb but at the 4:00 mark they were able to get past the
Sting players and they scored to win the game 7-6.
The Sarnia Peewee’s are now done
for the season but should hold their heads high on a great
playoff series. They would like to wish the West London
Hawks good luck in their final round against the Oakridge
Aeros. |
