LMHA Thunder

Clearwater Arena

The Sarnia Peewee MD team played the LMHA Thunder at the Clearwater Arena in the final game of the regular season. The two teams have battled all season and a win for the Sting would put them into a first place tie a-top the division standings.

Chris Winch had the start in net. In the first period, Brendan Hewton controlled the puck in the Thunder end. Hewton was able to pass the puck to Justin Lindsay and the puck entered the opposing net at 9:24 for a 1-0 lead. The Sarnia team controlled the play in the first but were unable to take advantage of a power play. The Sting were penalized just before the end of the period.

In the second period, the Thunder took advantage of their power play opportunity and scored their first goal of the game at 8:35 to tie the game. Both teams had to kill off penalties and the Sting found themselves down a defenseman for the rest of the game. Chris Winch made a couple of great saves to keep the score 1-1.

The third period began and Brendan Hewton made a nice break-out  pass to Justin Lindsay. Lindsay maneuvered his way around the defense and scored his second of the game for a 2-1 lead. With 7:45 left in the period, the Thunder tied the game on a defensive misplay. The two teams continued to battle but the Sting persevered and with 33.1 seconds remaining in the game, Justin Lindsay scored the hat trick. The Sting held on for a 3-2 win.

The Sarnia Peewee MD are hoping to be declared winners of their division. They have one more win than Oakridge in the regular season standings. The playoff schedule will be determined in the next few days. Hopefully, the Sarnia Peewee MD team will be representing the Forest City League in the Provincial Championship held in Hamilton starting April 11th.
