Sarnia Peewee MD vs West London
Hawks
Clearwater Arena
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Peewee MD team
and the West London Hawks met for the first time this season.
The game began with a great check by Jack Paterson of the Sting.
This set the tone for what was a very physical and exciting
match. Greg Loucks was the netminder and made a great save early
in the game. Matt Hodgins, Garrett Deley and A.P. player, Austin
Williams, had a great 3 on 2 opportunity but they couldn’t get
it past the Hawks goaltender. West London opened the scoring on
a nice 2-1 break. Loucks made the initial save but the rebound
went to the trailing forward who pocketed the puck into the net.
The Sting then ran into penalty trouble and found themselves 2
men short at the end of the period.
The team successfully killed off the
penalties with the help of nice saves from Loucks. Koen Gendron
showed great effort with his forechecking prowess. The Sting
were short handed again but stellar goaltending and good
defensive work kept the Hawks off the score board.
The third period began with the West
London Hawks penetrating the Sting zone and scoring a goal at
the 14:20 mark to make it 2-0 Hawks. Koen Gendron was on fire
and a set up to Justin Lindsay just missed the net. The Hawks
received a slashing penalty and on the ensuing powerplay, Justin
Lindsay stuffed in a rebound to halve the score. The Sting were
penalized two more times in the final minutes but Koen Gendron
worked his way into the Hawks zone and with a nice wrap around
tied the game short handed. With 1:47 left in the game, Greg
Loucks made a spectacular save on a lone Hawk. The Sting were
still short handed and Gendron stole the puck and rushed towards
the Hawks goal. He was hauled down on the breakaway and was
awarded a penalty shot with 12.6 seconds remaining. The crowd
was very quiet in anticipation of the penalty shot. Koen Gendron
skated towards the net and deked the Hawks goalie and poked the
game winning goal into the net. The Sting held off the Hawks for
remaining seconds and won the game.
The Sarnia Peewee’s have a rematch
against the Hawks on Monday, November 5th in London. |
