Sarnia Jr. Sting Peewee vs. LMHA
Thunder
Clearwater Arena
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major Peewee’s
finally had their home opener and Chris Winch got the start in
net. The Sting opened the scoring on a wrap around goal by Koen
Gendron. The home team ran into penalty trouble at the end of
the period and were down 2 men to start the second.
In the second period the first
penalty expired but the Thunder kept pressing and scored the
tying goal just before the second penalty ran out. Justin
Lindsay had a great opportunity to break the tie when he was
sent out alone on a breakaway but the LMHA goaltender made a
huge save. The Sting took a 2-1 lead when they won the faceoff
in the Thunder end and Kyle Classen scored. Chris Winch made 2
great saves in a row and Justin Lindsay was robbed on another
breakaway. 3 LMHA players then stormed the Sting net and tied
the game at 2 with 55 seconds left in the period.
Matt Hodgins then scored for the
Sting to make it 3-2 but on the ensuing faceoff, the Thunder
sent the puck into the Sarnia end and with a good effort tied
the game again. The Thunder didn’t give up and they scored the
go ahead goal half way through the period. Justin Lindsay, Kyle
Classen, Matt Hodgins and Chase Henne all had chances to tie the
game but the Thunder goaltender could not be beaten. LMHA scored
again but with 2 minutes remaining, Brendan Hewton set up Justin
Lindsay with a nice behind the back pass and Justin made the
score 5-4. The Sting kept pressing but were unable to tie the
game. The Sting outshot the Thunder 24-13.
The Sting play the Woodstock Navy
Jets this weekend. They travel to Woodstock on Saturday and
Woodstock returns to Clearwater for a game on Sunday. |
