The Sarnia Lady Sting Bantam A's came home from Barrie
on Sunday undefeated and with gold medals around their
necks. They finished 1st overall in their pool which
gave them a bye to Sundays finals in the Barrie
Sharkfest Tournament. The Sting's first game was against
a defensively tough team from Brampton. After looking
like it was going to finish with no scoring, Alicia
MacDougall chipped one in the corner on a pass from
Dayna Hiller. Haley Pickett also assisted on the play.
Unfortunately the Brampton Canadettes tied it up in the
dieing minutes of the game. It finished a 1-1 tie. Casey
Kerrigan did a wonderful job holding them to only 1
goal.
The second game saw Sarnia against the hosting Barrie A
team. After out playing them the entire game, Sarnia
finally opened the scoring with a beautiful break away
goal from Seirra Butler on a pass from Marlowe
Pecora. Megan Moore added another goal
to secure the win. She was assisted by Danielle Girard.
Danielle Lachapelle helped nail down the win by not
allowing a single goal.
The Sting's 3rd game was against Barrie's
second team who never really never
challenged Sarnia.
Shelbi Parizeau opened the scoring with assists from
Kelsey Robinson and Hanna Molzan. The ever powerful
Danielle Girard scored the second goal unassisted.
Shelbi Parizeau added her second goal of the game with
assists from Kelsey Robinson and Seirra Butler. After
having a goal called off on her because of traffic in
the crease, Dayna Hiller did it again a few minutes
later, and this one was good. Haley Pickett got the
assist with a nice pass out front. The final goal was
once again from Danielle Girard unassisted. The Barrie
team only managed to sneak one
puck by Casey Kerrigan who was strong as always.
The Lady Sting finished first overall in their pool,
which sent them straight to the finals on Sunday at
1:00. They were to face the Clearview A team, who only
had lost once. Despite completely outplaying and out
shooting the Icecats the game remained scoreless late
into the 3rd period. With only 50 seconds
remaining Shelbi Parizeau fired a bullet at the very
tough Clearview goalie who never had a chance. Megan
Moore assisted on the play. In desperation the Icecats
pulled their goalie, only to allow Danielle Girard to
fight off a defence man and add the insurance goal.
Danielle Lachapelle had an impressive 2nd shutout of the
tournament.
This was the Sting's first tournament win, they took
home a well deserved gold medal. Alicia MacDougall also
received a medal for MVP.
