The Jr. Lady Sting Bantam
A's moved on to the playoff finals after taking 5 out of
a possible 6 points in semi final action against the
Kitchener Rangers the last weekend of March Break. With
a number of players still being on vacation the Lady
Sting had to play all three games short.
The first game Sarnia had
only nine skaters and Kitchener had three full lines.
Despite being very tired, Sarnia stayed strong and after
a scoreless game, came away with a tie. Cassied
Kerrigans great net minding helped out the very short
line by not allowing a single goal.
The following Sunday Sarnia
was back home for a double-header. With 2 more players
returning from vacation, the Sting's roster was now up
to 11 skaters. Sarnia opened the scoring in the first on
a beautiful goal from Shelbi Parizeau. She was assisted
by Katey Hackney. Late in the second the hard shooting
Megan Moore would add a second goal to bring the Sting
up 2-0. Assisting on the goal were Jillian Rops and
Alicia MacDougall. Haley Picketts persistant hard work
paid off in the third period, as she netted the final
insurance goal, to give the Sting a 3-0 win. Shelbi
Parizeau and Jillian Rops both picked up assists. Cassie
Kerrigan got her second shutout in as many games.
In the second game of the
double-header Sarnia would draw first blood. And it
would be on another goal by Shelbi Parizeau who was
playing with an injured hand from a check into the
boards from the previous game. Katey Hackney was there
once again to assist on the play. Late in the second
Alicia MacDougall brought the Sting up 2-0. Haley
Pickett and Dayna Hiller picked up the assists. Haley
Pickett would then net her second goal of the day on a
nice play from Megan Moore and Dayna Hiller. Sarnia
added one more in the third when Shelbi Parizeau found
the net for the second time that game. Alicia MacDougall
and Jillian Rops got the assists. Kitchener only managed
to get one goal late in the third. It was their only
goal the entire series. Cassie Kerrigan made amazing
stops the whole weekend.
Sarnia now moves on to the
final round against the Belmont Blazers who finished the
regular season unbeaten. The Lady Sting are playing
really strong right now and will definitely give them a
run for their money. Sarnia travels to Alymer on Tuesday
night for the opening game, and are back home in Sarnia
on Saturday the 29th for a 1:00 game at the SSEC. If
necessary they will play back in Belmont the next day to
complete the series. The winner will play in the
tournament of champions the following weekend. Sarnia
will also be in Provincials the second weekend of April.
