Sarnia Lady Sting Bantam A's were in the final match up of league playoffs against the unbeaten Belmont Blazers this past weekend. Belmont was trying to finish off a perfect season as the only team without a loss in the Bantam A division. Sarnia had tied them on 3 previous occasions, but never a win.

In a best of 3 game series, the first matchup was Tuesday in Belmont and ended in a 0-0 tie. Cassie Kerrigan stood strong in net for the Sting to get the shutout.

Game two was back home on Saturday at the SSEC. Once again the game was scoreless going into the third period, but Belmont, on the powerplay, managed to sneak one past the tough netminding of Cassie Kerrigan to win the game 1-0.

The final game of the series was on Sunday, with Belmont getting home ice advantage. The Sting needed a win to force an overtime period to decide the champion. Belmont opened the scoring halfway through the first period, but Sarnia answered back with a couple minutes left on a hard fought goal by Alicia MacDougall. It was unassisted. The game remained tied going into the third period. Unfortunately a tie would give Belmont the title, but with only three minutes remaining Marlowe Pecora scored a beautiful goal to bring Sarnia up 2-1. Shelbi Parizeau and Megan Moore assisted. This is how the game finished and each team completed the series with three points which still meant a tie. This forced a five minute overtime period to decide it all. Sarnia dominated the overtime, but it still ended with no scoring, which meant a shoot out. Danielle Lachapelle remained tough to score on, as she shut down their first two skaters. The Stings first shooter, Shelbi Parizeau found the back of the net to bring Sarnia up 1-0. Belmont's third shooter did manage to score, but Sarnia did not answer back. Next one to score was the winner. Sarnia sent out one of their best, Danielle Girard, and she didn't disappoint. The goalie never had a chance. Danny Lachapelle shut down Belmonts shooter to secure the win and the division championship. Sarnia now advances to the tournament of champions next weekend in Vaughan.

The strong defensive team of Amy VandenEynde, Kelsy Robinson, Katey Hackney and Danielle Girard and of course goalies Danielle Lachapelle & Cassie Kerrigan held the impressive Belmont offence to only 2 goals the entire series.  This was a well deserved win!
