Wins LLFHL West Semi-Final Series
The Sarnia Girls Midget A team
played Woodstock in a best of three playoff series March 20th
to 22d. Two 1-0 wins iced Woodstock in two straight games with
goalies Mallory Mullin and Chelsea Fraser earning shutouts.
Amber Allison provided all the scoring needed with a pretty goal
in each game. Katelyn Sulkye and Jackie Burchmore set up the
first winner and Marie Burkland and Jackie set up Amber for the
second winner.
Earlier in March, in their Quarter
final series of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League, Sarnia
easily eliminated Windsor Wildcats with a pair shutouts with
identical 2-0 scores. Again, goal tending was flawless. Amber
Allison shot the winner in first game with Jessika Miller
scoring as well. Lisa Kettlewell set up both goals and
Burchmore also assisted on Miller’s goal. In the second game,
Jackie Burchmore scored the winner from Mackenzie Dark and Jess
Miller iced the game with a goal from Katelyn Sulke.
The Midget A team now has a league
record of 16 wins, 5 losses and 7 ties this season including
their four playoff wins. They have allowed only 19 goals all
year in league play with 19 shutouts. Sarnia finished the
regular season in second place in the Western Division of the
newly formed, province wide league LLFHL. There are four
divisions with a total of 37 Midget A teams.
Sarnia is now one of 8 teams
remaining and will now play the Bluewater Hawks for the Western
Division Championship. Game one is on March 27 at 8:00 PM in
Strathroy and game 2 is March 29 at 2:30 PM at the SSEC. The
winner will go on to play the other division champs in the
league championship final.
Other team members include Jenna
McLam, Rachelle Floin, Sarah LeBlanc, Erica Bucci, Sara Menzies,
Taylor Dark, Heather Dowell, and Andrea Greenaway. Coach Chris
Burkland and assistants Bill Dowell, Todd McLam and Mike Mullin
as well as trainers Rene Dowell and Chelsea Fraser make up the
staff of this team.
