The Sarnia Fury U14 Boys Soccer
team recently competed in the Ontario Futsal Cup
held at the Hoop Dome in Toronto.
The first game was against the
Ottawa Wizards and the boys got out to a quick
start. They led 3-0 on goals by Robert Carr and
Michael Fazzalari (2). Unfortunately, Ottawa
found the grove and netted 7 straight goals
spanning the first and second halves before the
boys could manage another goal. Scoring the
third Sarnia goal was Alisdair Coy and the game
ended in a 7-4 defeat.
In the second game, Sarnia
took on the eventual tournament champions,
Toronto RMC Uruguay. Once again, the boys
started quickly with a 2-0 lead on goals by
Alisdair Coy and Nathan Wilson. That seemed to
give their opponents a wake-up call as Toronto
cruised to a 12-2 victory over Sarnia.
The third game saw the boys
play Stoney Creek Salfleet. Netminder Riley
Taylor played strong in the first half keeping
the opponents in check while Robert Carr scored
to give Sarnia a 1-0 lead. In the second half,
the boys started to really click. Joshua
Lockwood netted 2 goals to increase the lead to
3-0. A couple late goals by Stoney Creek wasn’t
enough as Sarnia got its first victory of the
tournament 3-2.
The last game was against the
Toronto Eagles and the boys were more inspired
after having won their previous game. The play
was hard and the boys stepped up and were only
down 2-1 at half on a goal by Michael Fazzalari.
Toronto proved too much to handle in the second
half and went on to win 9-3. Scoring the last
two Sarnia goals was Michael Fazzalari and Josh
Lockwood.
The boys played awesome
considering that they have never competed at
this level of futsal before and represented the
Sarnia Fury soccer club very well.
The team members were:
