W.O.A.A. South Division Finals

Petrolia Squires vs Tavistock Royals

April 3, 2009

The Petrolia Squires defeated Tavistock 5 - 2 in Petrolia last night to take a 3 - 2 lead in the W.O.A.A. South Division playoff final.

The Squires took the early lead in this game after Scott Hull scored off the faceoff just :10 seconds into the game.  Craig LaFramboise and Carson Simpson assisted.  At 8:57 Kyle Hills put the Squires up by 2 with Brad Hull and Mitch Zavitz assisting.  Powerplay goal and his second of the night was scored by Scott Hull from Craig LaFramboise and Chris McPhail midway into the period.  A minute and half later Tavistock found the back of the net with Jamie Radar scoring from Mike Woodley and Mark Jennings.  Action continue and the period ended with the Squires leading 3 - 1.

Period two saw the Squires score two unanswered goals the first and his third of the night for the hat trick by Scott Hull assisted by Mike Gardner and Carson Simpson.  Carson Simpson would scored the second goal shorthanded with Lee Cole and Chris McPhail earning the assist.

In the third both sides went head to head and with :34 seconds remaining in the game Tavistock scored their second goal of the night by Kevin Breenman from Mike Woodley and Mark Jennings, but it wasn't enough as they time ran out giving the Squires the win.

Goaltending duties for Tavistock was shared by James Dupei with 16 saves and Mark Gillies with 10. 


Justin Day earned the win for Petrolia with 34 saves.

Game six is tonight in Tavistock at 8:30 and if necessary the two teams will be back in Petrolia on Tuesday April 7 for an 8:30 start.
