After a
fantastic season the Squires last
game of the year came to a crashing
halt as they took a huge 9 - 1 loss
last night before a packed house in
Petrolia.
With the
series tied at 3 games apiece and
after the Squires won all 3 home
games previously, stunned fans and
volunteers stood shaking their heads
asking the question "what happened?"
Despite many chances the home team
just couldn't find the back of the
net.
The lone
goal for the Squires was scored in
the second period on a powerplay
goal by Chris McPhail assisted by
James Edgar.
Tavistock scored a total of 4
powerplay goals throughout the game
with the first coming in the first
period as they lead 1 - 0 heading
into the second. Tavistock went on
and added 3 more in the second and
took a 3 - 1 lead and in the final
period the wheels fell off for the
Squires as Tavistock scored the
remaining 5 goals (3 on powerplays).
Justin
Day got the start in net for the
Squires and was later replace in the
second by Darryl Foster.
Mark Gillies who stonewalled the
Squires on many chances earned the
win for Tavistock.
Tavistock outshot the Squires 37 -
27.
Tavistock now advances to league
final against North Division
winner Saugeen Shores who beat
Shelburne in 7 Games.
For a disappointed Squires team,
they can hold their head high as
they had a fantastic season.
They lead the South Division
with a total of 34 points (16
wins, 2 loss, 1 tie, 1OT loss)
They defeated two teams in
playoffs with a 4 game sweep
over Goderich and 4 - 1 against
Monkton and went 7 games in
their Division final series.
The fans enjoyed the games as
attendance for the year was up.
(last night's 50/50 draw was
worth $1,050.00) It was a good
season.
Rest assured, they'll be back
next year.
