The
Squires take a two game lead in the
best of 7 playoff series against the
Goderich Pirates. In two close
games the Squires took a 4 - 3 win
on Friday at home.
The
Pirates took the lead in the first
scoring 2 powerplay goals the first
by Matt McPhee from Sean Burton and
Ryan Stuart and the second be Neil
Steenstra from Dillon Stokes.
Time of the goals were at 10:54 and
14:11.
In
the second the Squires scored first
at 9:18 with Jason Polera scoring
assisted by Lee Cole. Another
powerplay goal for the Pirates put
them up 3 - 1 with Sean Burton
scoring from Derek Whitehead and
Dillon Stokes. Petrolia scored
their first powerplay goal at 17:09
by Scott Hull and Lee Cole and with
:34 seconds left in the second James
Edgar scored assisted by Danny
Larocque and Ryan Chapman to tie
things up at 3 - 3 heading into the
third.
Donald Hudson scored what turned out
to be the game winner at 12:47 into
the third for the Squires assisted
by Mike Perry and Jeremiah Goodacre
as they held on to the end for the 4
- 3 win.
Darryl Foster was in net for the win
making a total of 22 saves, Brad
Powell made a total of 46 saves.
With
win # 1 under their belts the
Squires took the road for game 2 of
the series on Sunday.
The outcome was the same as
the game on Friday night
with the Squires winning 4 -
3, this time however
it was OT that settled the
score.
In the first period Petrolia
was to take the 2 goal lead
after Ryan Chapman scored
the first goal short handed
with Lee Cole and Justin Day
assisting. The second
goal of the night was on the
powerplay with Scott Hull
from Jeremiah Goodacre and
Greg Bailey assisting.
Goderich answered back with
a powerplay goal with Matt
McPhee from Kyle Hamilton
and Mike Gillen scoring.
The first period ended with
the Squires leading 2 - 1.
Period two saw Goderich
score another powerplay goal
to tie things up. Dave
Meriam scored the only goal
of the period from Dillon
Stokes and Mike Gillen.
Midway into the third period
Goderich took the lead for
the first time when Josh
Liddle from Tristan Kolman
and Kyle Hamilton scored.
Just under a minute later
Petrolia answered back with
a goal by Kyle Gould from
Mike Perry and Donald Huson
to tie things up. The
score would remain the same
after regulation time
sending the game into
overtime.
In overtime Craig
LaFramboise scored the game
winner assisted by Jason
Polera just 2 minutes into
the overtime period to give
the Squires the 2 game edge
over the Pirates.
Justin Day was in net for
win #2, Tyler Koot took the
loss for the Pirates.
Both ends made a total of 26
saves.
Game 3 is set for Friday
February 13 in Petrolia with
an 8:00pm puck drop.
