After a fantastic first half
with a winning streak of 11
games before taking a pair of
losses the Squires began 2009
with a 7 - 4 win over Thedford.
In the first period the Squires
took an early lead with just :47
seconds off the clock when Jason
Polera from Adam Abrahamson
scored. Thedford answered
back to even the score 15:56
when Scott Campbell scored
assisted by Brent Degroot and
Steve Campbell.
At the start of the second
period with just :23 seconds off
the clock Jason Polera scored
his second goal with Greg Bailey
assisting. Just under 2
minutes later Thedford came back
and fired in 3 quick goals the
first at 2:03 then at 3:11 and
3:54.
T.J. VanEngelen scored the first
unassisted, Jake Bruce from
Brent Degroot and Stevel
Campbell scored the second and
Brent Buntler scored the third
unassisted to take a 4 - 2 lead.
At the midway point Petrolia
answered back to narrow the lead
when Steve Barraclough scored
assisted by Chris McPhail, then
at 14:15 Lee Cole tied things up
with Jeff Gould and Chris
McPhail assisting. The
period ended with both sides
even with 4 each.
In the third it was all Petrolia
as they scored 3 unanswered
goals. The first goal and
what turned out to be the game
winner was scored at 5:59 by
Ryan Chapman from Danny Larocque.
Polera scored his 3rd of the
game at 12:35 on a powerplay
with James Edgar and Jeff Gould
assisting. The final goal
was also on the powerplay at
14:50 with Adam Abrahamson
scoring assisted by Chris
McPhail and Lee Goal.
Scott Bricker was in net for
Thedford making a total of 35
saves. Darryl Foster was
in net for the win for Petrolia
with 16 saves.
The win puts the Squires back in
the top spot in the South
Division standings race.
