Petrolia Squires vs Tavistock Royals
game 1

The
Petrolia Squires hosted and defeated
the Tavistock Royals 7 - 5 in game 1
of the South Division Finals in the
W.O.A.A. hockey league.
The
Squires went up 3 - 1 after the
first period of play with Jason
Polera scoring the first goal 1:44
into the game on a powerplay from
Lee Cole and Craig LaFramboise.
The next 3 goals in the game were
scored seconds apart of each other
as James Edgar from Kyle Gould and
Danny Larocque scored midway into
the period and just :11 seconds
later Craig Laframboise scored
assisted by Jason Polera and Scott
Hull. The Squires went up 3 -
0 but Tavistock scored :12
seconds later on the powerplay by
Mike Saunders from Jeff Roes.
Period
two saw Tavistock score three back
to back goals to give them the 4 - 3
lead for the first time in the game.
Jason Walsh, Tyler Roth and Tim
Barlow each scored for Tavistock
with assistance from Mike Woodley,
Ben Ruthig (2), Andrew Oesch, Kevin
Breenen.
After a
goal tending change by Petrolia as
Darryl Foster replaced Justin Day in
net, Mitch Zavitz scored for
Petrolia to even the score assisted
by James Edgar. Edgar went on
to score with just :04 seconds
remaining in the period to take the
lead. Polera assisted on the
leading goal.
Period
three saw Petrolia widen their lead
when Joe Sauve from Danny Larocque
scored the 6th goal early in the
third. Brad Hull scored the
final Squire goal assisted by Mitch
Zavitz and Steve Barraclough.
Tavistock continue to push and Wes
Kropf scored unassisted but it
wasn't enough and Petrolia took the
win with a final score of 7 - 5.
James Dupej went the distance in net
for the Royals making a total of 19
saves. Justin Day made a total
of 21 saves and Foster finished the
game with a total of 12.

Petrolia.
The winner of the South
Division will play the
winner in the North
Division in the League
finals. In the
North Division Saugeen
Shores is leading the
series 1 - 0 against
Shelburne.
