Home game vs. Cambridge
October 25 2008
The Sarnia Atom Lady Jr.
Sting battled for first place in a home and home
series against the Cambridge Roadrunners on October
25. The previous night had settled nothing ending in
a 2-2 tie.
The puck dropped at the
SSEC and Sarnia was quickly on the board. Mackenzie
Wilson bulged the twine behind her namesake in the
Cambridge goal Mackenzie Reardon. Assisting on the
blast were Allee Riddoch and Sarah McCormick.
Cambridge battled back
24 seconds later when a shot beat Ashley Norland in
the Sarnia goal. It looked like a shoot out was on.
A minute later Jocelyn Eves streaked down the left
wing and centered to a trailing Suzanne Lockhart.
Lockhart made no mistake scoring her second of the
season and giving Sarnia the lead once more.
The lead once again was
short-lived when Cambridge replied 29 seconds later.
Both teams settled down
and the period ended 2-2.
Neither team was able to
gain an advantage in the 2nd period and
the first place battle entered the final period
still tied at 2.
Cambridge took their
first lead of the game thirty seconds into the third
period when a shot eluded Norland. The Sting
answered back when Wilson tickled the twine for the
Lady Sting on a nice set up from Kristin Parkes.
The Sting looked the
better team and were rewarded once again when
Lockhart scored her second of the game with Parkes
again getting the lone assist with 3 minutes left in
the contest.
Time was ticking under a
minute and Cambridge gambled by pulling their
keeper. Cambridge dumped the puck in. Reagan Subban
of the Roadrunners intercepted a clearing attempt up
the boards. Subban looking for her second marker of
the game, wristed a hard shot from the top of the
faceoff circle, which caught Norland backing into
her net. Cambridge had tied the game 4-4 with the
extra attacker.
The battle for first had
ended the same way as the previous night in a tie.
Cambridge went home still the only undefeated team
in the Division. The Lady Stings’ next game is
November 2 when they travel to Stratford to play the
Aces. |
