ALVINSTON FALLS SHORT The attempt to return to the .500 level on the road in Glencoe on Tuesday night fell just short for the Alvinston Indians. The Indians stranded 5 runners in scoring position against Glencoe's starter Shaun Winship, which ultimately led to their defeat. A Bill Piskorowski 2 run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning off Indians righty John Ferguson was the difference in the game. Alvinston replied with their only run in the top of the seventh, when after a two out single by Andy Triest, he eventually scored after a Mike Black single. Winship was the winning pitcher for Glencoe allowing 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 11 Alvinston swingers to earn the win. John Ferguson was the hard luck loser for Alvinston pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, with 3 strikeouts. Mark Johnson had 2 hits for Glencoe, while Andy Triest and Mike Black each had multi-hit games for Alvinston in a losing effort. Final score was Glencoe 2, Alvinston 1. The Indians are on the road tomorrow night in Merlin at 8:00pm, when they play the Blenheim Home Run Restaurant. Also of note, the Alvinston Indians had four players chosen for the All-Star game next Tuesday night in Fingal (beginning at 7:00pm) versus last season's playoff champions the St. Thomas Storm. Scott Smith, Shawn Fenton, and Joe Triest were all elected starters at catcher, first base, and second base respectively, while Andy Triest gets the nod as an alternate outfielder. Scott D. Smith will represent the Indians in the inaugural St Thomas and District Major Fastball League Home Run Derby.
