ALVINSTON EARNS BIG WIN Last evening, the Alvinston Indians entertained their home crowd, on a beautiful evening for ball, against the second place Belmont Black Sox. Fans were treated to great pitching by Belmont's Nic Goetz, but also Kyle Crawford for Alvinston, who made his debut on the mound for the Indians and was masterful. The young right handed twirler tossed 6 2/3 innings, and before he was replaced by Doug Charlton for the final out, fans applauded the youngster for his efforts in the circle. Crawford had 4 strikeouts on the evening, and held a no-hitter until the sixth inning. He ended up allowing 2 hits and 4 walks on his way to earning the victory in the game.Alvinston counted their first and second runs in the fourth inning, and added 2 more in the fifth, en route to a 4-1 win. Theo Metron cashed Shawn Fenton with a clutch 2 out RBI single in the fourth inning, for what turned out to be the winning run. Scoring for the Indians were Scott D. Smith, Fenton, Mike Black, and Joe Triest. Driving in the runs were Fenton, Metron, J. Triest, and Scott D. Smith. Belmont's only run came in the sixth inning off Crawford. Alvinston is off to the OASA Eliminations this coming weekend. They are trying to repeat as Ontario Champions in 2008, as they did in 2007 in St. Thomas.
