ALVINSTON NOTCHES FIRST
WIN
May 16, 2008
On Friday evening, the Alvinston
Indians notched their first win of the season, when Eric Hyatt
counted the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, for a 6-5
win.
John Ferguson earned the hard-fought victory on the
mound, grinding it out for all seven innings, as he was the only
pitcher on hand for the Indians.
Joe Triest led the Indians going 2/2 with 2 singles, 2 walks,
and 2 runs scored. Shawn Fenton also had 2 hits for the locals,
while Mark Saunders hit the long ball, blasting a solo homerun
over the left centre field fence.
Scoring for the Indians were J. Triest (2), Andy Triest (2),
Saunders, and Hyatt. Driving in the runs were Fenton (3), J.
Triest, Saunders, and Theo Metron.
The Alvinston Indians improved to 1-2 on the young season in St.
Thomas & District Major Fastball League action. They are on the
road both Tuesday and Thursday this coming week. It's off to
Fingal on Tuesday for a matchup with last season's Playoff
Champions, the St. Thomas Storm, and then on Thursday the
Indians will battle the Morpeth Magic in Morpeth. This coming
weekend, the Alvinston contingent will travel to St. Clements
for their first tournament of the season.
