INDIANS FALL IN HOME OPENER The Alvinston Indians opened up their season on the wrong foot, as they fell to the visiting Belmont Black Sox 8-3. The Alvinston Indians appeared as though they were shaking off the rust from the off-season, while Belmont was playing in their second game of the young season and were definitely the better team. Greg Moore got the call for the Indians on the rubber, and pitched three solid innings, allowing one run on one hit, with 2 walks. Doug Charlton came in in relief of Moore and suffered the loss. Scott Smith was the lone bright spot offensively for the Indians, as he went 3-3 with a homerun and an RBI. Scoring the other runs for the locals were Jamie Shields and Jason Warren. Driving in the other runs were Andy Triest and Ryan Chapman. Before the contest, the Alvinston Indians had a moment of silence to honour five loyal fans that passed away in the off-season. John McCart, Ed Gray, Neil Wilson, Jack Lehrbass and Rudy Belak will certainly be missed in the stands in Alvinston at home games. The Indians continue their schedule Tuesday in Fingal versus the Shedden Mission, beginning at 8:00pm. |
