ALVINSTON SPLITS ON WEEKEND

The Alvinston Indians hit the diamond twice this past weekend.  On Friday night they hosted the Glencoe Astros in what turned out to be a great game.  The game pitted Shaun Winship for Glencoe against John Ferguson and Brad Young in relief for Alvinston.  The game was 0-0 thru seven innings, and the international tie-breaker rule was used, at which point Glencoe was able to bust up the score, scoring five runs.  Alvinston replied with 2 of their own, but it was not enough as the Indians settled for a 5-2 loss.  Brad Young was the losing pitcher in the game, while Winship took the win.  Ferguson pitched 3 shutout innings as well in the game, in what was a well pitched contest.  Bryand Depencier and Eric Hyatt scored for Alvinston, with Depencier and Joe Triest driving in the runs.

On Sunday, Alvinston travelled to Morpeth to face the Magic.  All the scoring that was needed was done in the first inning.  Jason Hope singled in Chris Drew for the game's first run, and then Ryan Chapman hit a three run bomb all in the first inning, as Alvinston jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Morpeth brought Greg Guy in and he held Alvinston at bay, while Doug Charlton did the same for Alvinston, not allowing a run for 6 1/3 innings, before turning things over to Brad Young, who got the final two outs in the game to preserve the win for Charlton.  Final score was Alvinston 4, Morpeth 0.

The Indians are now 4-6 on the season, in St. Thomas and District Major Fastball League action.  They hit the diamond twice this week, for matchups between Glencoe and Glanworth on Tuesday and Wednesday nights respectively.  They will then travel to Innerkip this weekend, for the ISC II Qualifier.
