Alvinston vs Shedden
September 24, 2009

ALVINSTON FALLS SHORT IN OPENER

The Alvinston Indians opened their best of five St. Thomas and District Major Fastball League Championship final at home last evening against the Shedden Mission.  A big crowd was on hand to see some great fastball, as both teams gutted it out in game 1.

The game remained scoreless through three innings, but Shedden got things rolling in the third.  Jason Dawdy doubled for Shedden and was promptly driven home by Gary Cooke with an RBI double of his own.  Curtis Cornelius then followed and hit another double for Sheeden, scoring Cooke for a 2-0 lead.  Indians starter Brad Young would battle into the sixth inning with two out, before being relieved by John Ferguson who came in with the bases loaded, and shut the door to keep Shedden from adding to their lead, by recording the final out of the inning.  Ferguson then threw a 1, 2, 3 seventh inning, to give the Indians a chance to try to claw back in the seventh.  And the Indians did, as Chris Drew reached second base via an error with one out.  And then with two out, Andy Triest drove in Drew for the get close run to make it 2-1.  Joe Triest then followed with a single, putting runners on first and second base for Alvinston, but Shedden was able to record the final out, and earn the game 1 win with a 2-1 victory over Alvinston on their home turf.

Game 2 goes Sunday night in Fingal beginning at 7:00pm.
