ALVINSTON
EVENS FINAL SERIES
The Alvinston Indians fell
behind early, and appeared down and out, down 3-0 in the
top of the fifth inning. But the Indians exploded for 5
runs in the top of the fifth inning, and added 3 more
the rest of the way, en route to a 8-3 victory over the
Shedden Mission, to even their best of 5 St. Thomas &
District Major Fastball League Championship Final at one
game a piece.
Shedden got going, by
scoring 2 runs in the second, when Pat Haggerty double
to score both Jeff Macpherson and Mike Unwin. Shedden
then added to their lead, when MacPherson jacked a solo
bomb, to put Shedden in a comfortabel 3-0 lead. Shedden
starter Mike Joseph was rolling along, but all of a
sudden the Alvinston offence came alive in the fifth
inning. Jeff Ingram got on base via an error, and then
Chris Drew doubled and Brad Young hit a bunt single to
load the bases. Eric Hyatt then changed Alvinston's
fortunes by smacking a solid single up the middle to
score both Ingram and Drew. Then with two out in the
inning, Steve Donald singled to score both Hyatt and
Young. Theo Metron then singled scoring Donald for the
5-3 lead. Then the Indians would add one run in the
sixth inning, when Chris Drew hit a solo homerun to
extend their lead to 6-3. Then in the 7th, Alvinston
wasn't done, as Steve Donald doubled, and then Tim Brown
went into pinch run, and eventually scored on a Theo
Metron two run homerun.
With Alvinston up 8-3 in the
game, John Ferguson toughed it out on the mound to
record the come from behind victory for the Indians.
Ferguson allowed 3 runs over 7 innings, on 3 hits and 2
walks, with three strikeouts. Mike Joseph suffered the
loss on the mound for Shedden.
Game 3 goes Tuesday evening
in Alvinston, beginning at 7:30pm. |
