INDIANS WIN AT HOME IN PLAYOFF OPENER

The Alvinston Indians opened up the first game of their best 2/3 St. Thomas & District Major Fastball league Playoff schedule, with a 3-1 win over the Belmont Brewers.

Belmont scored first in the opening inning, but Young shut the door the rest of the night, allowing 4 hits the rest of the way.  Young tossed the entire game, allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits, he allowed 1 walk, while strikeing out 6, to earn the win.

Joe Triest tripled in the bottom of the first to lead off the game, but the Indians failed to score him, as they were down 1-0 early.  They went right back to work in the bottom half of the second off of Brewers starter Chad Hargrove, when Tom Jobson led off with a triple, and scored on a 1 out RBI single by Andy Triest.  After Triest stole second base, he was driven in by Joe Triest, in what turned out to be the game winning run and RBI.  Alvinston added one more controversial run off Belmont relief pitcher Shaun Winship, in the bottom of the third inning, when Scott Smith was ruled safe at home.

Winship drove in the lone run for Belmont, while Keenan Haight was 2/4 for Belmont in the game.  Belmont threatened in the 7th, but left the bases loaded.  Scott Smith was 2/2 for Alvinston with a walk, double, and a run scored.  Joe Triest was 2/4 with a triple and game winning RBI single.  Andy Triest was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run.

Game 2 of the series goes next Wednesday evening in Belmont, beginning at 8pm.
