The Alvinston Indians played
at home on yesterday's beautiful Sunday
afternoon, against the visiting Glencoe Astros.
Alvinston got going early in the first inning, when they
piled on three runs. Joe Triest singled, and then
scored on an RBI triple by Chris Drew. Ryan Chapman
then walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and
with runners on second and third, both Drew and Chapman
scored on a fielder's choice, with Aaron Stocking up to
bat.
However, Alvinston didn't add to the lead, and
instead allowed 4 runs in the top of the third inning,
on two hits. Kyle Crawford started for the Indians, but
was relieved by John Ferguson with no out in the third
inning, and the bases loaded.
Now with a 4-3 deficit on their hands, Alvinston came
back to life in the bottom of the fourth, when Ryan
Chapman tripled, and then scored on a 2 out RBI single
by Andy Triest, who tied the game at 4's.
Alvinston then took the lead for good, adding three runs
in their half of the fourth inning. Eric Hyatt reached
base on an error, was pushed to second on a Joe Triest
single, and then Steve Donald, effectively sacrificed
both runners to third and second with only one out.
Chris Drew followed with an RBI single scoring Hyatt,
and Chapman then followed with a single of his own to
score J. Triest. Drew then scored on a RBI groundout by
Brad Young, to put the Indians up 7-4.
In the fifth, A. Triest walked to get things going for
Alvinston, and would eventually score on an RBI single
by Joe Triest. J. Triest then scored the ninth run for
Alvinston, when he scored on an RBI single by Steve
Donald. John Ferguson quietly went about his business,
and only allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings of work,
and had 7 strikeouts, to settle things down on the mound
for Alvinston the rest of the way, and earning the win.
The final score was Alvinston 9, Glencoe 5. Joe Triest
was 3/3 for Alvinston, with three runs, 1 RBI, and he
was also hit by a pitch. Chris Drew and Ryan Chapman
were both 2/4, with two runs each, while Andy Triest was
1/2 with a walk, run scored, and an RBI. The win
improves Alvinston's record to 13-6. They travel to
Fingal on Tuesday, to face the Shedden Mission at
8:00pm. And next Thursday, July 15, the Alvinston
Indians, last year's playoff champions, will face
off against the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball
League All-Stars, at 7:30pm in Alvinston. Come watch
the League All-Stars go to battle against the Indians
next Thursday!
