The Alvinston Indians
travelled to Fingal on Tuesday night, to face the always
tough Shedden Mission. Shedden scored two in the
first off of Alvinston starter Jeff Lyons. However,
Alvinston squared matters in the second, when after four
walks, Alvinston was able to count 2 runs, as Brad Young
and Scott Smith both scored, to tie the game. The pesky
Shedden Mission went back to work however, and were able
to count a run off of Indians relief pitcher Brad Young,
who took over for Lyons, in the second inning. The game
remained 3-2 for Shedden, until the top of the fifth
inning, when after Chris Drew walked, Jeff Ingram
crushed a two run homerun, to put the Indians in front
4-3. However, Shedden squared matters once again, when
Hutchings and Halliburton both doubled for Shedden, to
produce the tying run in the sixth inning. With both
teams failing to score in the seventh, the game went to
extra innings. With Brad Young as the runner on second
base for the Indians with the international tie-breaker
rule in effect, Scott Smith smacked a single, which
plated Young for what would be the game winning run, as
Alvinston and pitcher Brad Young, shut down Shedden in
their half of the 8th inning, for an exciting 5-4 win.
Alvinston is now 14-6 on the season, and are in a battle
for first place in the league with St. Thomas, who are
12-5. Alvinston will now host the STDMFL All-Stars on
Thursday evening in Alvinston at 7:30pm, for this year's
version of the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball
League All-Star Game. They are then off to Frankenmuth
this weekend, for the 15 team Pete Schwab Memorial
Fastpitch Tournament. |
