INDIANS WIN ON ROAD
On Wednesday evening, the
Alvinston Indians travelled to Glanworth, for their last
contest with the Glanworth Gators. The Indians were
hoping to improve their record against Glanworth, to 4
wins and 0 losses on the season.
In the first inning, they
made a case to do so, when they earned three runs. Joe
Triest, Steve Donald, and Chris Drew all singled, with
Drew driving in Triest for the game's first run. Then
#5 hitter Jeff Ingram came to the plate with one out,
and singled to score both Donald and Drew.
With a 3-0 lead, that gave
young starter Jeff Lyons the support he needed, as he
held off Glanworth for the first three innings of work.
In the fourth however, Glanworth touched Lyons and the
Indians up for two runs. A walk was issued, and then
with one out, McKillip smacked a triple to score
Glanworth's first run. McKillop would then eventually
score as well, tightening the game to a 3-2 score.
Alvinston then turned the
ball over to veteran Doug Charlton in the top of the
fifth, and he help Glanworth down in the fifth. That
sparked Alvinston, as they made an important run of
their own. Drew tripled for Alvinston, and then scored
on an RBI single by Ryan Chapman. The Indians then
added two more insurance runs in the sixth, to make it
6-2, when Tom Jobson walked with one out, Shawn Fenton
singled, and then Charlton and Donald both had RBI's
singles to score both Jobson and Fenton.
Glanworth would fight back,
scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the
seventh, but that was as close as they would get,
as Alvinston earned the 6-4 road victory.
INDIANS WIN OPENING
GAME OF DOUBLE HEADER
The Alvinston Indians hosted the Morpeth Magic at home,
on Thursday evening, in what was to be a double header.
Unfortunately the weather did not hold off, and the
teams were only able to get the first game in, with the
second game needing to be restarted, as it was not a 5
inning game.
Alvinston got to work right away in game #1, in the
first inning, when they piled on six runs right off the
bat, off of Morpeth pitcher Darrwen Devine. Joe Triest
singled, and eventually scored on an RBI double by Scott
Smith. Greg Fowler then singled to score Smith.
Stocking then followed with a single, which set things
up for Jobson, who drove in both Fowler and Stocking
with an 2-RBI double. Eric Hyatt was then the next
batter, and he singled home Jobson. Andy Triest then
followed and clubbed an RBI triple, which scored Hyatt.
However, Morpeth kept fighting back, as they kept adding
on the hits and making runs. They scored 3 runs in the
third when they were one batter short of batting around,
and added another in the fourth. John Ferguson battled
it out on the mound, and kept Morpeth in check, enough
to earn the victory, as he helped to strand many Morpeth
runners on base. He was releived by Brad Young for the
final six outs, but fought hard enough to earn the 6-4
victory for Alvinston.
With the win, Alvinston improved their record to 16-6 on
the season, with two regular season games remaining for
them. They are in a fight with St. Thomas, for first
place in the league. They travel to Belmont next
Wednesday evening, and then need to make-up a game with
Morpeth. |
