2010 Baseball
The Alvinston Indians play in the St. Thomas and District fastball League.

INDIANS LOSE IN BELMONT

The Alvinston Indians were fighting for first place in the league, but now will finish second behind the St. Thomas Storm, after a 3-2 nail biting win for Belmont against the Alvinston Indians.  Many regulars were not on hand for Alvinston, but that's certainly not Belmont's fault, as they put together a strong game, and fought hard for the impressive come from behind victory in extra innings.

The game pitted young starters Chad Hargrove for Belmont against Indians starter Kyle Crawford.  Crawford pitched six scoreless innnings for Alvinston, leaving the game in the seventh inning, with no one out after a leadoff walk.  Belmont threatened in the sixth, after a triple by Tweedle, but an incredible defensive diving play by Andy Triest in centrefield ended the inning, and kept the game scoreless.  Crawford pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 hits and 4 walks, with 6 strikeouts.

The game was scoreless after seven innings, and the game went to extra innings, and the international tie-breaker rule.  Alvinston scored first when Charlton scored on an RBI bloop single by Eric Hyatt.  However, Belmont replied in their half of the seventh, when Smith scored on an RBI signle by Peterson.  Alvinston then added one run of their own in the ninh, when Joe Triest started at second, was sacrificed to third on a bunt by Andy Triest, and then scored on an RBI sac fly by Chris Drew.  However, Belmont won it in the ninth, when Tweedle scored, and then Mark McCallum drove in Hargrove for the game winning run, ad 3-2 Belmont victory over Alvinston.

Hargrove got the win for Belmont, allowing 2 runs in 9 innings of work.  He allowed only 2 hits and 2 walks in the game, with 9 strikeouts.  Young suffered the loss in the relief of Crawford.

This puts the Indians record at 16-7 for the regular season.  Their final league game, was tentatively scheduled with Morpeth for tomorrow night, but will not occur due to no umpires being available on short notice, and therefore the game will likely remain unplayed, as playoffs start next week!
