INDIANS POST PERFECT RECORD AT SNAPPER SHOOTOUT

The Alvinston Indians travelled to the Snapper Shootout this past weekend, to face a very talented field of great teams.

Game #1

Alvinston opened up against the Cobourg Force on Saturday morning, and opened the scoring with 2 runs in the first inning, off of a 1 out two run homerun by Keith Rankin.  Cobourg went onto muster one run in the second and two more in the third, to take a 3-2 lead.  Cobourg then added another run in the top half of the fifth, for a two run lead, however Alvinston replied with a run of their own to keep the score close at 4-3.  After a Joe Triest single, Keith Rankin went to work again doubling home Triest for the Indians third run.  With Cobourg having Alvinston on the ropes, Ryan Gray and Joe Triest singled to open up their half of the seventh inning.  Steve Donald then sacrificed to advance both runners to second and third.  The Force then intentionally walked Rankin, setting the stage for Ryan Swift, who hit a bases loaded single off of Cobourg starter Wayne Wells, to score both Gray and Triest to end the game, and provide a thrilling come-from-behind 5-4 victory for Alvinston.

Joe Triest was 3/4 for Alvinston with 2 singles, 1 double, and 3 runs scored.
Keith Rankin was 2/2 for Alvinston with a homerun, double, 3 RBI's, 2 walks, and 1 run.
Ryan Swift hit the game tying and game winning single in the top of the seventh to win the game for Alvinston.

Game #2

Alvinston went back to work in the afternoon against the Wyevale Tribe, the team who eliminated Alvinston at last year's ISC II World's.  Brad Young took the mound, and was masterful, holding Wyevale to four hits over seven innings of work, as he shutout Wyevale.  On the offence, Alvinston scored in the opening inning.  Andy Triest dropped down a perfect bunt single, and then scored on an RBI double by Keith Rankin.  Alvinston then added another single in the third, when Swift singled, and and then scored on an RBI double by Chris Drew to deep centre.  In the fifth, Andy Triest got the Indians offence motoring again, when he smacked a double into the gap, and again was forced home on an RBI single by Keith Rankin.  Rankin then came around to score, when he counted after a sacrifice fly by Ryan Chapman.  Alvinston would add one more run in the sixth, when after a Ryan Gray single, Keith Rankin would eventually come to bat, and collected his third RBI of the game on an RBI single, and his seventh RBI of the tournament.  The final score was 5-0 for Alvinston over Wyevale.

Andy Triest was 2/4 for Alvinston with a single and a double, two runs scored, and he reached base on an error as well.
Keith Rankin was 3/4 with 3 singles, 3 RBI's, and one run scored.
Ryan Gray was 2/3 for Alvinston with 2 singles and a run scored.

WP - Alvinston - Brad Young - 7IP, 4H, 4K, shutout.

Game #3

Alvinston played their third game of the evening under the lights on Saturday evening, against their last round robin opponent, the Jarvis Travelers.  It was a great game with Shaun Winship and Robbie O'Brien toeing the rubber, in what turned out to be a great pitching duel.  Alvinston opened the scoring in the second inning, when Chris Drew doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a fielder's choice, with Jeff Ingram collecting the RBI.  Alvinston would hold the lead until the fourth inning, when Jarvis finally knotted the game at 1.  Ian Fehrman tripled, and then scored on a wild pitch.  However, Alvinston didn't give in, as Ryan Swift reached first on a throwing error in the seventh inning, where he was able to advance to second on the wild throw.  Siwft then advanced to third on a wild pitch, and eventually scored when Ryan Chapman hit a clutch RBI single, to put the Indians in the lead, 2-1.  Winship then went to work in the Jarvis half of the seventh, striking out the first two batters, and eventually recording the third out, as Alvinston recorded the improbable victory, to put them at 3-0 after the round robin portion, and in first place in their division.  Shaun Winship was dominating on the mound, allowing only one run on three hits for Alvinston, against a strong Jarvis lineup.

Chris Drew was 1/3 for Alvinston with a double and run scored.
Ryan Chapman was 1/3 for Alvinston with the game winning RBI single.
Andy Triest was 1/3 for Alvinston.

WP - Alvinston - Shaun Winship - 7IP, 3H, 1ER, 6K.

The tournament was then cancelled on the Sunday due to heavy rainfall.  Much thanks to the Niagara Snappers for a great tournament, and their hard work in preparing and caring for the diamonds, especially with the weather playing havoc on their tournament!  This is a tournament that all teams should mark on their calendars!
