Braves Major Mosquitoes 1 competed in the London
Oakridge Baseball Tournament on the weekend winning
one game and losing 2 games.
In the first game
Friday evening, Sarnia faced Byron winning 6 to 3
and defeating them for the first time this season to
counter 2 previous defeats in league and tournament
play. Jordan Pavey pitched three innings for the win
followed by two strong innings of relief by DJ
Lussier. Yenel Olivero and Richard McIntosh closed
out the last inning to preserve the win. Kyle Adams
led the way on offence with a triple and a single
scoring a run as well.
Sarnia Braves lost
to Tecumseh the eventual tournament champs 4 to 2 in
the Saturday morning game with Kobe Lundy pitching 3
strong innings without giving up a run. Richard
McIntosh followed in relief allowing only 1 run but
taking the loss. Keyshaun Jordan followed Richard
with some solid pitching but giving up 2
runs. Travis Moore finished the game pitching well
in relief. Kyle Adams knocked out a single in the
fifth. Kobe followed using his speed to stretch a
long hit into a triple driving in Kyle and
scoring on a ground out RBI by Sam McCormack to
provide Sarnia's only scoring in the game. Keyshaun
had a solid double in the game as well.
The Braves faced
tournament hosts Oakridge Saturday afternoon with
advancement on the line. Jordan Pavey took the mound
for Sarnia again in the tournament but Oakridge got
to him early. He gave up 5 runs in the first inning
on 5 singles and a triple. He came back with a
three up and three down second though. DJ Lussier
followed on the mound giving up only 2 runs in 5
strong innings of relief. Meanwhile, Sarnia fought
back on offence with a run in the second and five of
their own in the fourth followed by two in the
fifth. At the end of the seven regulation innings
the game was tied at 8 so an extra inning was
required. Richard McIntosh came in to pitch for
Sarnia, giving up 1 on a walk, stolen base and a
double before closing out the Oakridge half of the
inning at bat. The Braves came to bat requiring one
run to tie and two to win. They managed a lead off
single by Matt Szabo but could not drive him in when
the following three batters recorded outs preserving
the 9-8 win for Oakridge. Devin Butler highlighted
Sarnia's offence with a double and two singles in
the game as well as a run scored. Kyle Adams also
had a single and a triple in the game scoring two
runs and driving in a run.
