London Oakridge Mosquito Baseball Tournament

July 25-27,2008

Sarnia Braves Major Mosquitoes 1 competed in the London Oakridge Baseball Tournament on the weekend winning one game and losing 2 games.

In the first game Friday evening, Sarnia faced Byron winning 6 to 3 and defeating them for the first time this season to counter 2 previous defeats in league and tournament play. Jordan Pavey pitched three innings for the win followed by two strong innings of relief by DJ Lussier. Yenel Olivero and Richard McIntosh closed out the last inning to preserve the win. Kyle Adams led the way on offence with a triple and a single scoring a run as well.

Sarnia Braves lost to Tecumseh the eventual tournament champs 4 to 2 in the Saturday morning game with Kobe Lundy pitching 3 strong innings without giving up a run. Richard McIntosh followed in relief allowing only 1 run but taking the loss. Keyshaun Jordan followed Richard with some solid pitching but giving up 2 runs. Travis Moore finished the game pitching well in relief. Kyle Adams knocked out a single in the fifth. Kobe followed using his speed to stretch a long hit into a triple driving in Kyle and scoring on a ground out RBI by Sam McCormack to provide Sarnia's only scoring in the game. Keyshaun had a solid double in the game as well.

The Braves faced tournament hosts Oakridge Saturday afternoon with advancement on the line. Jordan Pavey took the mound for Sarnia again in the tournament but Oakridge got to him early. He gave up 5 runs in the first inning on 5 singles and a triple. He came back with a three up and three down second though. DJ Lussier followed on the mound giving up only 2 runs in 5 strong innings of relief. Meanwhile, Sarnia fought back on offence with a run in the second and five of their own in the fourth followed by two in the fifth. At the end of the seven regulation innings the game was tied at 8 so an extra inning was required. Richard McIntosh came in to pitch for Sarnia, giving up 1 on a walk, stolen base and a double before closing out the Oakridge half of the inning at bat. The Braves came to bat requiring one run to tie and two to win. They managed a lead off single by Matt Szabo but could not drive him in when the following three batters recorded outs preserving the 9-8 win for Oakridge. Devin Butler highlighted Sarnia's offence with a double and two singles in the game as well as a run scored. Kyle Adams also had a single and a triple in the game scoring two runs and driving in a run.
