Sarnia Braves Major Mosquito 1 team
participated in the 60 team St. Thomas Cardinals
tournament on the weekend winning one game while
losing 2 games late in each game.
In the first game Friday
night, they faced off against Georgina from north of
Toronto. They had a 5-4 lead going into the final
frame but gave up 5 runs to lose by a final of 9 to
6. Travis Moore, Kobe Lundy, Jordan Pavey and Tyler
Gillis shared the pitching for the Braves. The early
four run lead came on hits by Jordan Walsh, Travis
Moore, Matt Szabo and DJ Lussier. Matt and DJ had 2
RBI's each in the game. Tyler Gillis also had 2 hits
and a run in the game.
On Saturday morning,
the Braves were home team against Essex. Once again
they started with an early lead that was overcome
when Essex scored 6 runs in the top of the seventh
leading to a loss of 10 to 6. Kobe Lundy, Travis
Moore, Tyler Gillis, Jordan Pavey, Yenel Olivero, DJ
Lussier and Matt Szabo all took trips to the mound
during the contest. The Braves had 9 hits with Brock
Morgan scoring 2 runs for the Braves on a single and
2 walks and DJ Lussier crossing the plate once on a
triple a single and a walk.
Saturday evening the
Braves met Brantford with no hope for advancement in
the tournament but took on the role of spoilers.
This time the Brave Mosquitoes knocked Brantford out
of the playdowns with their own come from behind win
10 to 8. Jordan Pavey got the start on the mound
with Jordan Walsh, Matt Szabo, Richard McIntosh and
Travis Moore sharing in relief. Richard got the win
when Sarnia scored three runs in the top of the
sixth to break a 7-7 tie and Brantford could only
respond with one run. Travis nailed down the win
with the final out when the tying runs were on base.
Tyler Gillis led the way on offense with 3 hits and
a run. Jordan Walsh had a long home run in the third
inning and Kyle Adams came through with solid play
at shortstop and contributed a single in the fifth
inning. Devin Butler also scored a run on a hit and
a walk while Travis Moore scored a run on a double
and a single in the game.
