Labour Day Weekend saw the
Peewee Braves in Windsor for the OBA A division
Championships. The 1st game was Friday afternoon
against the Peterborough Tigers. This game
featured probably the best pitcher the Braves
have seen all year (a flame throwing lefty named
Rob Condon). Condon went on to 3 hit the Braves
for a 10- 1 victory. Mitch Bigras, Sam Ellenor
and Jesse Marks had the hits for Sarnia. Mitch
Bigras came out throwing well and went into the
4th inning before surrendering 4 runs on 2 hits
3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Tyler Whitbread then
took the hill and gave up 6 runs 3 earned on 4
hits, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. The pitchers did
a great job as Peterborough was probably one of
the best hitting teams we've seen as well.
Next game was early
Saturday morning and it was win or go home. And
win we did. The boys came out strong and mercied
Kingston 12-2. In this game Sam ellenor and
Dylan Whitbread combined on a no hitter. Sam
went 3 innings gave up a run on no hits 5 walks
4 strikeouts and one hit batter. Dylan went 2
innings gave up a run unearned on no hits 2
walks and5 strikeouts. At the dish Tyler
Whitbread was 2for2 while Sam Ellenor tripled
and Tristan Buntrock, Mitch Bigras and Vince
caschera all had a hit as well.
No rest for the weary on
this steamy Saturday as the boys headed directly
from game 2 to game 3.
And the momentum
continued. Another mercy this time over Toronto
area team from Birchmount. Final score 10-0.
Vince Caschera got the start and went 3 and 2/3
innings allowing no runs on 1 hit 1 walk and 9
strikeouts. Tyler Whitbread finished up allowing
no runs on 1 hit 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
Hayden Maclean, Tyler
Whitbread, Mitch Bigras and Sam Ellenor had big
hits for the Braves.
After a short rest it was
on to the 3rd game of the day against the
Hometown Walker Homesites. This one started out
weird when the home team didn't like the umpire
so they had him replaced. Eventually the game
got underway but it was not long before
controversy reared its head again as with 3 runs
across already the Braves Sam Ellenor crushed a
ball that got by the outfielder and rolled about
a mile. The base umpire ruled it a home run but
out came Homesites manager and what do you know
they change the call to a triple. Not to be out
done Coach Marks had his say in the matter and
after a lengthy discussion and input from about
a hundred parties Sam was awarded his home run
and all was well. Sarnia carried a 6-1 lead into
the bottom of the 3rd when Walker Homesites (who
are a very good team) began chipping away at the
lead and heading into the bottom of the 7th it
was tied 6-6.
Unfortunately they had the
top of there order coming up and wasted little
time pushing across the winning run. Kudos has
to go to little Nate Jackson of Walker Homesites.
He might be the tiniest player we have ever seen
and he went the final 5 innings blanking the
Braves and recording the win.
Mitch Bigras got the start
for Sarnia and went 3 innings giving up 4 runs 5
hitsand 3 strikeouts. Shane Remes, Tyler Groulx
and Jesse Marks closed out the game. Vince
Cashera was 3 for 3 with a home run double and
single.
Same Ellenor had a single
to go with his mammoth home run.
The boys really saved
their best ball for this weekend and played
great against teams that were mostly a year
older than them. Look out next year these guys
are gonna be great
