The first game was Friday Night
against Markham. Tyler Whitbread took the ball to the
mound and went 3 strong innings giving up 4 runs on 7
hits and 5 strikeouts. Shane Remes went the final 3
innings giving up 6 runs with 1 strikeout. Sarnia scored
5 in the last 3 innings but it was too little too late
as Markham went on to win 10-5. James Pavey had 2 hits
while Vince Caschera, Dylan Whitbread, and Tristan
Buntrock all had a hit each, with Buntock's was a
triple.
Game 2 went Saturday afternoon on
a brutally windy day against the Aurora Jays. The boys
came out swinging in this one recording 9 runs through 2
innings. Unfortunately the Jays brought their bats as
well and scored 10 runs in the 2nd on 8 hits and that
pretty much took the wind out of the kids sails.
The game only went 4 innings
because of time limit so the boys had little chance to
come back. Aurora won the game 13-9. The Braves went
through 4 pitchers in this one as pitch counts became a
factor. Jesse Marks, Joey Stock, Sam Ellanor, and Dylan
Whitbread all pitched for Sarnia. At the plate Hayden
Mclean had 2 hits while Shane Remes and Tristan Bunrock
had a hit a piece.
Even though an 0-2 record
eliminated the boys from the tournament they showed up
Sunday morning undaunted and ready to finish off the
round robin against the Kitchener Rangers. If only it
had been like this all tournament. The boys played a
great game and routed the Rangers 12-3. Dylan Whitbread
got the start in this one and went 3 strong innings,
giving up 2 runs on 1 hit and 5 strikeouts. Mitch Bigras
came in for the final 2 innings and completely dominated
giving up 1 run on 1 hit and 5 strikeouts. Hayden Mclean
had 2 doubles and Joey Stock had 2 hits as well. Tristan
Buntrock had yet another triple as teams refuse to
respect the tiny titan.
A 1-2 record was not what we had
hoped for but after the first month of play the boys
seem to be coming together and coach Marks should have
them whipped into shape in no time. No rest for the
weary as the boys get right back at it with 3 more
league games this week. It starts Monday night in
Strathroy.
