Sarnia Bantam Braves fall to Arch Rivals EBBA in LDBA Playoffs

The Bantam Braves came up a little short on the weekend, in the London and District Baseball Association final, losing to London EBBA 3 - 0 on a miserable Sunday afternoon in London in a double knockout format..

Austin Lanteigne pitched a great game, with relief help from Jake Marks, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 5 hitters. There were only 2 walks. All of London's runs were scored in the 4th inning on 1 hit, 2 errors, and 2 walks.

Sarnia had the misfortune of hitting at a lot of players, but few fell in for hits. The Braves had only 3 hits - by Dom Bucci, Cole Moriarity, and Austin Lanteigne.

Sarnia's road to the final began on a rainy Friday night, with a 19-1 victory over Komoka. Josh Taylor and Dylan Whitbread combined in the win throwing a no - hitter allowing only 2 walks. Komoka's run was scored on an error.

On Saturday morning, Sarnia defeated Southwest London by a score of 14-3. The game was only 5-3 for Sarnia in the 4th inning until the Braves exploded for 9 runs in the 5th inning to secure the win. The game was highlighted by a 330 ft. homerun blast by Curt Robichaud to end the game ( mercy rule ). Cole Moriarity and Jake Marks pitched the win allowing 5 hits, striking out 7, and walking 4 hitters.

This set up the game of the 2 undefeated teams, Sarnia and London EBBA, Saturday afternoon.  London came out flying scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning on 4 hits and 2 walks. Sarnia never really recovered, stranding 13 runners in the game to fall 4 -1. Sarnia's lone run was scored by Jake Marks on an rbi single by Austin Lanteigne in the 6th inning. The Braves loaded the bases in the 7th inning on 3 hits, but couldn't put any across the plate. Sarnia had 13 hits in the game. Dom Bucci and Dylan Whitbread had 3 hits apiece. Cole Moriarity, Jake Marks, and Austin Lanteigne had 2 hits each. Dom Bucci and Curt Robichaud pitched well for Sarnia allowing only 8 hits, and striking out 6 London hitters.

Sarnia then played Southwest London again ( who defeated St.Thomas and Tillsonburg ), this time coming out on top by a score of 10 -3. Sarnia scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, 2 in the third, and 4 more in the 6th inning for the win. Dom Bucci and Nate Havers both had 2 hits each. Dom Bucci almost pitched the complete game, but because of his pitch count, Josh Taylor came in to retire the final 2 batters in another soggy contest. This set up the final game of Sarnia with the undefeated London EBBA - with the Braves having to knock them off twice.....but it wasn't to be.
