Braves lose in Semis

In a very tight game
Sunday afternoon at the St. Thomas Cardinals
Baseball Tournament, the Sarnia Braves Major
PeeWees lost to North Toronto by the score of 3
to 0 in semi-final action eliminating them. All
three runs came in the fourth inning. Yenel
Olivero started for the Braves and took the loss
giving up two runs on three hits in three
official innings. Richard McIntosh took over on
the mound in the fourth after Yenel failed to
record an out and allowed only one run on two
hits in four official innings of relief. Yenel
struck out 7 while Richard added another 8 for a
total of 15 strikeouts. The Braves bats did not
come alive as in previous games in the
tournament producing only five hits. Richard
drove out two of those on a single and a double
while Yenel, Devin Butler and Brock Morgan
stroked out singles. The Braves stranded six on
base while North Toronto stranded five.
Yenel started the
first game in the tournament on the mound and
pitched a masterful game recording a 8 to 5
victory over Wyoming. Ryan Walker closed in
relief. Mat Szabo scored two runs on three hits
in the game. Brock Morgan drove in two runs on a
single and a double and scored one. Jordan Pavey
also recorded a single and double scoring a run
while Josh Turner scored a run after a long
double in the fourth.
In their second game
of the tournament on Saturday afternoon, Sarnia
defeated Newmarket by the score of 12 to 4.
Jordan Pavey pitched very well for the win with
Mat Szabo finishing in relief. The Braves
recorded 18 hits in the game highlighed by
Brock's three hits including a triple and Drew
Morgan's three hits.
Saturday evening
under threatening skies, the Braves mercied
North London by the score of 12 to 2 in five
innings. Richard recorded the win on the mound
with Brandon Shanks completing the game in
relief. Sarnia scored 5 in the second and five
in the fourth driving out thirteen hits in all.
Devin Butler, Ryan Walker, Richard, Jason
Verwegen and Boady Santavy each recorded two
hits in the contest.
