
WYOMING MIDGET BASEBALL TEAM TAKE HOME THE GOLD
MEDAL
AT THE OBA
CHAMPIONSHIPS IN AMHERSTBURG
The Wyoming Midgets
capped off a successful season by winning the gold
medal in the OBA Championships held in Amherstburg.
They played 6 games losing only once. Four of the
six games were one run games.
They started the
tournament with a win against Chatham by a score of
5 - 0 followed by a 9 - 3 win over Port Hope. They
defeated Orangeville 3 - 2 and topped Harrow 2 - 1.
Their only loss was to the host team Amherstburg by
a score of 2 - 1 in extra innings. They advanced to
the championship game against Waterdown who also had
one loss in the double knockout tournament.
The championship
game was extremely exciting with Wyoming coming from
behind to score 4 runs in the top of the 7th to take
a one run lead (8 - 7). In the bottom of the 7th,
Waterdown had 2 men on and no one out but a timely
strikeout and some solid defense got Wyoming out of
the inning without allowing a run making them the
OBA gold medal winners. Each player and the coaches
were awarded a sterling silver OBA ring to
commemorate the occasion. The team is coached by
Brian Fowler and Calvin Bright.

Game #1
Wyoming 5 - Chatham

Russ Muhlig and Tim
Boersma shared pitching duties for this game.
Aaron Gibbings led
the offense with 2 doubles while Scott Fowler
connected
for a double and a
single. Chris Bright recorded 2 singles.
Individual singles
went to Mitch Robb and Muhlig.
Runs were scored
by: Fowler, Bright, Steve Gray, Muhlig and Gibbings.
Game #2
Wyoming 9 - Port Hope

Mitch Robb took the
mound for this game and was relieved by Tim Boersma.
Wyoming only
recorded 4 hits but scored 9 runs. Cory Steadman
connected for a triple.
Robb hit a double
while Scott Fowler and Russ Muhlig hit singles.
Runs were scored
by: Fowler (3), Bright (2), Steadman (2), Muhlig
(2).
Game #3
Wyoming 3 - Orangeville

Ben Dupuis and Tim
Boersma shared the mound for game #3.
Chris Bright led
the offense with a triple and a single. Mitch Robb
and
Russ Muhlig each
recorded a double. Aaron Gibbings hit a single.
Runs were scored
by: Bright, Robb and Muhlig.
Game #4
Wyoming 2 - Harrow
1
Game #4 had Adam
Casier, Tim Boersma and Russ Muhlig on the mound.
Chris Bright
recorded 2 singles while Muhlig, Steve Gray
and Boersma each
hit a single.
Both of Wyoming's
runs were scored by Scott Fowler who walked 3 times
in the game.
Game #5
Wyoming 1 - Amherstburg

This game was
scoreless through 5 innings with Mitch Robb having a
strong
outing on the
mound. Tim Boersma came on in relief late in the
game.
Ben Dupuis started
the 5th with a single and later scored on an RBI
single by Chris
Bright which ended up being Wyoming's only run.
The game was tied
at 1 at the end of 7 innings and went into extra
innings.
Amherstburg was
able to score one run in the 8th to win the game.
Russ Muhlig
connected for a double. Mitch Robb also recorded a
single in the loss.
Game #6 -
Championship Game
Wyoming 8 - Waterdown

Mitch Robb, Russ
Muhlig and Tim Boersma combined to pitch the win.
The game was
scoreless after 3 innings. Waterdown scored first
with 2 runs in the 4th.
Wyoming responded
with one in their half of the 4th. Waterdown scored
3 in the 5th with Wyoming getting 3 more also in the
5th keeping the game a one-run lead for Waterdown.
Waterdown came out
and scored 2 more in the 5th off Wyoming's very
tired pitchers to give
them a 3 run lead.
Wyoming, with a never-give-up attitude, regained the
lead by scoring 4 runs
in the top of the
7th. Waterdown came out and put their 1st two
batters on base with no one out.
A strikeout and
some strong defense allowed Wyoming to keep their
lead and win the championship.
Cory Steadman made
a great catch in center field to record the 3rd out.
Scott Fowler led
the offense going 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Robb and
Muhlig each recorded 2 singles. Ben Dupuis and
Aaron Gibbings each connected for double
while Steadman singled.
Runs were scored
by: Fowler (2), Bright, Robb, Muhlig (2), Dupuis,
Adam Casier.
