Game 2:
Huron Lakers 40 vs. Blessed Sacrament 52
The girls had
their work cut out for them in this 2nd
game. After 3 periods, the girls were down
by 1. At half time, the score was in favor
of Blessed Sacrament by 9 points. The girls
were still in the game, and just needed to
gain an advantage on their rebounding. The
girls played a great game, but came up short
by only 12 points. Caroline Hummell lead
the pack with 16 points, Allison Deery added
6 points, Danielle Graham & Kierstynn Pettit
both added 4 points, and Emily Schaefer,
Kristi Pugsley, Mackenzie Turner, Madison
Neilson and Lexi McShea all added 2 points a
piece.
Game 3:
Huron Lakers 48 North Toronto Huskies 15
In this 3rd
game, the girls came out very strong
offensively and were able to run many of
their plays. After half. the girls were
leading by a score of 31 to 7. Caroline
Hummell was doing "her thing" at the foul
line and sunk 5 of 6 foul shots, bringing
her total for the game to 15 points.
Madison Neilson and Allison Deery both added
6 points, Emily Schaefer, Kierstynn Pettit
and Lexi McShea added 4 points a
piece, Cassidy Crowe added 3 points, making
one of her foul shots, and Kristi Pugsley,
Paige Tucker, and Melissa Blair all added 2
each. The girls were very strong in their
rebounding collecting 38 of 57 total
rebounds.
Game 4:
Huron Lakers 53 vs. Guelph CYO 48
Another tough
game for the girls, the girls were behind
after half by only 3 points. The girls were
playing well together and were testing many
of their plays. After an enlightening
speech from their coaches at half time, the
girls came back on the court full of
determination. Madison Neilson sunk two 3
point shots to give her 13 points this game,
Caroline Hummell was hotter then ever at the
foul line, making 11 of her 12 shots, giving
her 15 points total. Kierstynn Pettit and
Mackenzie Turner both added 5 points, Paige
Tucker and Melissa Blair added 3 points, and
Kristi Pugsley and Lexi McShea rounded out
the score with 2 points each. Free
throws were certainly a strong point this
game and the relentless practicing had paid
off. This win took the girls to the Bronze
medal game which was to be played
against the tournament hosts, IEM.
Game 5:
Huron Lakers 35
vs. IEM 44
With 3 wins and
only 1 loss, the girls made their way to the
Bronze medal game on Sunday. After two
periods of play, the girls were only down by
1 point, the score was 8-7. The girls had
their speed and their fast break in their
favor and continued to lead the game in
points through to the 7th period, at this
point they were up by 3. With a hard fought
last period of play, they just couldn't
maintain the pressure on IEM, who in turn
made the most of their opportunities and
ended up with the 9 point win. Madison
Neilson lead the way with 10 points, Melissa
Blair added 7 points, both Caroline Hummell
and Mackenzie Turner added 6 points a piece
and Danielle Graham, Kierstynn Pettit and
Paige Tucker rounded out the score
contributing 2 each.
The girls had a
great start to their season with 3 wins and
2 losses and a very big win against Guelph
in Game 4. Sarnia was well represented at
this tournament on all fronts. A great job
to the girls and to the coaches!
