LOCAL TEAMS COLLECT 3 MEDALS AT HURON LAKERS TOURNAMENT

 

Local teams earned gold, silver, and bronze medals at this past weekend’s Huron Lakers Major Midget and Junior Girls Basketball Tournament. 

 

In the Junior division, the St. Clair Colts captured gold with a 46-44 win over the London Ramblers when Kaitlyn Paulley converted 2 free throws with 2 seconds remaining in the game to end a close fought final.  Paulley, named the tournament MVP, contributed 22 points in the win.  Riley Williams also chipped in 8 for the winners. 

 

Earlier in the day, St. Clair defeated the St. Christopher Lady Storm in the Semi-Final game 51-42.  The Lady Storm went on to take home the bronze medal in the Junior division with a 53-51 victory over the London Flames.  In the bronze medal game, Carly Litrenta and Kelsie McEwan led the Lady Storm with 12 points.

 

In the Major Midget AAA division, Sarnia Valhalla cruised to the Gold Medal with a 57-21 trouncing of the North Toronto Huskies.  Valhalla went undefeated through the round robin portion of the draw by defeating Brantford and Strathroy, and then soundly defeated Ancaster 65-43 in the semi-final to advance to the final.  In the final, Valhalla was led by Jenna Graham with 14 points and tournament MVP Laura Dally contributed 10.  The bronze medal was won by Windsor who recorded a 51-43 victory over Ancaster.

 

The Major Midget A/AA division was taken by the London 86ers in a triple overtime thriller over the London Flames 46-45.  The bronze medal in the Major Midget A/AA draw went to the East Elgin Eagles who toppled the Ingersoll X-Plosion 24-20.  The Huron Lakers team failed to advance to the medal round.

 

Huron Lakers Girls Basketball Club is a non-profit organization established to promote the development of girls basketball in the County of Lambton and is open to all girls in the county regardless of where they go to school.  A grade 1-4 House league will be starting the week of April 16th.  For information and to register, visit www.huronlakers.on.ca
