Championship Game
Lambton
Metal Service Rampage vs Bluewater
Power Titans
The Sarnia Flag Football
Association played the Bluewater Cup
Championship on Sunday December 06 under
sunny and cool skies in Sarnia. The
Bluewater Power Titans, looking to
defend their champion title for the 5th
time, narrowly defeated the Lambton
Metal Service Rampage by the score of 19
to 14. This game featured two very
evenly matched teams and was a repeat of
the 2008 championship game and was
everything that should be expected in a
final game.
The Rampage took the lead early and
by half, the score was 14-7 against
the Titans. But Titan defense held
strong and with 2 goal line stands and
and a single touchdown, with 5 plays
left in the game, the Rampage still held
the lead 14-13. Then Titan QB
Peter Faasse found All Star Reciever
Russell Pettypeice in the endzone and
the lead finally shifted to the Titans
by a score of 19-14 with 4 plays left in
the game.
But the Rampage would not be denied
and in 4 plays with 1 plays left and at
4th down, they stood at half field
looking to hard to upset the Titans.
Under hard pressure from the
Titan D-Line, Rampage QB Devon Johnson
threw a long pass that was picked off by
Titan Jason Cain and that it seemed the
Titan 5-pete was complete....but
the celebration was short lived as
penalty flags were on the field. An
interference charge against the Titans
allowed the Rampage to have a
second chance (shades of Montreal
Allouettes?), 10 yards closer.
But again the Titan D-line pressed
hard and just as Johnson threw, big Mike
Griffin knocks the thrown ball to the
ground and like the ball, so to went the
chances of the Rampage to upset the
Titans. For the fifth time in 5 years,
the Bluewater Power Titans emerged
champions of the Sarnia Flag Football
Association.
The SFFA would like to thank all the
players and supporters for this season.
It was an incredible season and promises
to be even better next year.
