The Sarnia
Sturgeon Junior Varsity suffered a crushing defeat at
the hands of the Toronto Junior Argos in the provincial
semi-finals on Sunday at Norm Perry Park by a score of
14-12. A win by the Sturgeon would have enabled them to
join the Bantam Sturgeon who will represent the
organization in the provincial finals Sunday August 8 at
Sir Wilfrid Laurier University.
The JV team began the season 0-3 and then put on a
convincing 5 game win streak to finish the season at 5-3
and the
right to host the playoff game between the second and third place teams.
The Sturgeon
came out with a smothering defence and held a 6-0 lead
at the half. Another unconverted touchdown was added as
the Sturgeon opened up a 12-0 lead after 3 quarters.

In the
fourth quarter, numerous turnovers by the offence gave
the potent Argo offence short fields to work with. On
numerous occasions the valiant defence turned back the
visitors. Toronto scored the go ahead touchdown with
1:20 remaining in the game and hung on for the victory.
