Sturgeon PeeWees Defeat Junior Argos
July 18, 2010
The
Sarnia Sturgeon PeeWees played their final regular season
game at Norm Perry Park on Sunday against the Toronto Junior
Argos and came away with a hard fought 20-6 victory.
The Sturgeon moved the ball very well in the first half but
many drives stalled as they entered the red zone. Keyshaun
Jordan finally put the Sturgeon on the board with a 12 yard
sweep around the left side in the second quarter. The
Junior Argos countered with a major of their own and the
score was knotted 6-6 at the half.
The key
play of the game occurred with the visitors driving midway
through the third quarter. Liam Austin stripped the ball
from a Toronto fullback and handed it to Josh Kita who
sprinted 70 yards to the endzone. This killed the momentum
Toronto had been building and gave life to the home side.
The Sarnia defence held their ground during the rest of the
game and the offence added some insurance scoring on a 2
yard dive by Jamie Campbell. Keyshawn Jordan added a 2-pt
convert to put the Sturgeon on top 20-6, sealing their 4th
win of the season.
Jamie
Campbell lead the Sturgeon attack with 150 yards on the
ground. Solid efforts on defence by Chase Noftall, Drew
Bradshaw, and the defensive line limited the Argo ground
game, forcing many 4 and out situations. The Sturgeon head
to Mississauga to face the Rattlers in the season finale
next Sunday, July 25th. Kick-off scheduled for
