Sturgeon Strong in Season Finale
The
Sturgeon Peewees wrapped up their season with an
impressive 38-6 victory over the Rattlers on Sunday in
Mississauga. The victory was a total team effort as the
Sturgeon scored in all facets of the game. Jamie
Campbell lead the attack with 3 majors on the day,
scoring from 70, 5, and 3 yards out. Keyshawn Jordan
added a 59 yard scamper of his own and a two-point
conversion pass to Dylan Fais. The defence and special
teams also got into the act as Aden Alkinani blocked a
punt deep in the Rattler zone that was recovered in the
end zone by Chase McCrae. Aaron Blondin also picked up a
forced fumble and ran it 20 yrs for a score.
The
Rattlers came out tough to start the game holding the
Sturgeon to only 6 points in the first
half. Mississauga struck first on a nice pass play over
the middle for a 40 yard touchdown. After shutting down
the 2 pt conversion attempt the Sarnia offence answered
with a major of their own, Jamie Campbell’s first of the
day. With the score knotted at 6 to start the 2nd
half the Sturgeon took over with 32 unanswered points.
The defence was dominant as they refused to allow the
Rattlers to cross mid-field in the second half.
Defensive stalwarts Mitch Damchuck, Aden Alkinani, Josh
Kita, and Chase McCrae lead the team in tackles.
In
the final week of the season the Sturgeon prepare to
face the Toronto Jr. Argos on Championship day in London
July 31st in the Silver Medal Game, kick-off
scheduled for 12:30 PM at Westminster Secondary School.
Congratulations to the Pee Wees on a successful season.
